Brown Grove Baptist Church is the spiritual heart of the Brown Grove Rural Historic District, an African American community founded by formerly enslaved residents south of Ashland. An exterior plaque now recognizes the church and surrounding landscape as a nationally significant historic district, honoring more than 150 years of faith, resilience, and community life.
